Our History
We started out originally as just the Helensvale Bowls Club. Back in the day it was pretty basic just one green, a single bar and enough seats for about 100 people. We eventually built a second green in the mid-80s and then added a third in 2000. When poker machines first became a thing in Queensland we grabbed nine of them to test the waters. Now? We're running 193.
To be honest the club really woke up and found its groove in 1995. Before then we were well established for bowls but out of 248 total members, only six were social members. Once we started throwing BBQs hosting bingo sessions and serving up great meals with high-class entertainment, it basically turned into the ultimate social hub of Helensvale.
2024 Achievements
Fact is we never really stop trying to make this place better. 2024 was a massive year because we finally wrapped up our second undercover green. It's perfectly designed for both casual beers and bowls, and serious competitive play.
Our mates at BioScapes led by Dave Bentley actually snagged runner-up at the SAPIA Awards in the Commercial Sports Courts -- Synthetic category for their work on Green 2. Beating out international multi-sport arenas is no joke.
On top of that Ashley Cooper Construction took home two huge trophies at the 2024 Gold Coast Master Builders Queensland Awards for our recent club upgrades:
- Best Sporting Facilities
- Best Tourism & Leisure Facilities over $10 million
Our Community
Club Helensvale has always been right at the heart of the local area. Overall it's about providing a safe friendly space to hang out, but our reach definitely goes way beyond the club doors. We're always keen to lend a hand to those who need it whether that's local schools hospitals aged care facilities sports groups or even animal welfare.
Here is a quick look at the numbers:
- $2,500,000+ -- Total contributions since 2002
- $49,877.00 -- Total community contributions (24/25)
- $618,481.00 -- Affiliated club contributions (24/25)
- $73,254.00 -- Non-cash community contributions (24/25)
We also set up the Club Helensvale Community Benefit Fund specifically to dish out donations and sponsorships. If you're an eligible local group focusing on youth the environment disabilities or sports facilities definitely reach out.
